This past Saturday, I spent the afternoon with one of South Florida’s most prominent IT couples–Lisa & Donald Pliner. They were receiving visitors in the Donald J Pliner Concept store at the Village of Merrick Park, along with their young daughter and their white maltese, BabyDoll. Friends and fans flowed in and out all afternoon, trying on shoes and boots, perusing handbags and jewelry, nibbling, and chatting with Lisa and Donald.
I had just seen Lisa at the Rally for Kids event a few nights before, but I hadn’t seen Donald since Miami Swim Week. They were lovely, as always. In case you didnt know, footwear is in Donald’s blood. I did a feature piece on him for Examiner.com earlier this year. Lisa is no slouch either, having trained at the renowned Parsons School of Design in Paris. Her Lisa for Donald J Pliner collection is contemporary and edgy, with some of it trimmed in “edgy hardware.” In addition, all of her designs have her signature green sole(the color of peace, life, growth, renewal, and love), as well as a tractor bottom (for safety).
I talked to Donald about his Spring collection. While he didn’t want to reveal too much, he did tell me to watch for colors like “shrimp” and “rose.” Ohhh..the possibilities. Lisa was a lot more forthcoming, motioning me and Jauquese outside and giving us an exclusive sneak peak at her Look Book. I was quite impressed with the new textures, shapes, and adornments.
The Pliners have extraordinary “style”. They are great philanthropists–always giving back to the community and lending their names to great causes. They have huge hearts. So, I was a lot taken aback, but not really surprised when suddenly Lisa got the great idea that one of her shoes was PERFECT for me. She FORCED me to try them on, not taking any excuses. When I finally settled on a size, she signed the bottoms and gave them to me. Wow! How cool is THAT! Here are my new Lisa Pliner shoes.
This is the kind of thing that makes me love these two. Conversations flow easily and they are just so darn nice. Not “frou frou” nice, but rather genuinely nice. I cherish my friendship with them. If you live in a town where there is a Donald J Pliner concept store(Houston, New York, Las Vegas, San Jose, Miami), check to see when the Pliner’s next personal appearance is scheduled. Then go in and introduce yourself. Be sure to tell them that I sent you!
Disclosure: During my afternoon, I was given a pair of Lisa for Donald J Pliner shoes, valued at $235. In no way did this gift influence my post.
