I hope that you didn’t miss the Sanrio exhibit at Art Basel? If you did, then you DEFINITELY missed a great one! Sanrio took over an empty warehouse in the Wynwood Arts District to present Small Gift Miami. I absolutely LOVED it and I’m not a huge Hello Kitty fan! What impressed me so?
Well, first off, the 8000 square foot space had been COMPLETELY converted for this event. No area was unused. There was the Art Exhibition that showed one of a kind works from fifty artists. Then, there were stunning 35ft wall murals and neon installations. There was even a huge visual timeline of Sanrio. It jogged my memory and reminded me of characters long forgotten. Also, the renowned Los Angeles tattoo studio, Spotlight Tattoos, developed more than 50 custom designs featuring Hello Kitty and others from the Sanrio collection. Guests could get these tattoos FREE. Finally, there was the Small Gift Pop Up Shop, where fans and collectors could grab special edition Sanrio 50th Anniversary items. I saw Hello Kitty Jelly Bellys, bags, tees, water, thumb drives, etc. Hello Kitty Monopoly? Seriously?
Did I mention that while all this was going on, there was a roaming magician, dancers, and character appearances? Oh, and the sporty collection of vehicles outside attracted a huge crowd. In case you missed it, I have a ton of pictures. Check it out!
