This past Sunday, Def Jam recording artist Rick Ross, made a personal appearance at the Macy’s Men’s Store at Aventura Mall. Rick was representing Sean John apparel and fragrances. Rick Ross, who was raised in nearby Carol City, drew a huge crowd–hundreds flocked in to glimpse him.
Of course, I got to sit down with him before he greeted his fans. Here’s what he had to say:
On giving back to his community–
I have Rick Ross Charities that hosts year round events. And it’s just not Miami. Just before Thanksgiving, we were in one of the most malnourished cities in the United States–Clarksdale, Mississippi–giving away truckloads of turkeys and talking to the community, especially kids. Kids are the most important asset that we have in the community and I make sure that I do what I can.
On what’s its like to work with Diddy–
Oh, it’s priceless. The experience is priceless. The relationships that he has established over the years, would take me another 25 or 30 years to establish. With me having him as a partner, and him being able to step in and make things happen very quickly, is only an asset. I’m a person that knows how to take advantage of that.
On how the Sean John collection defines Rick Ross–
I think it’s (the collection) is so simple, but at the same time–Arrogant. And when you think of Sean John, you think of “the best.” But also, everyone can wear it.
On who he would want to work with that nobody would expect–
Maybe Lionel Ritchie. When I think of great music, I don’t categorize it. I would love to be the first Hip Hop artist to collaborate with a legend like Lionel. Of course I would rap, and leave the singing to the legend.
Sean Jean is the lifestyle brand created by Diddy. Rick was rocking the gear and smelling yummy. He was wearing Unforgivable.
After speaking to me, Rick Ross made his way down to the first floor where a DJ announced him and put on one of his hits. The crowd chanted all the lyrics while he took in the scene. Then he started taking pictures and signing autographs for fans who had purchased items from the collection.
