A few weeks ago, I happened upon the Words to Sweat By website. It’s a woman owned business that makes cutesy gym towels, snack bags, key fobs, etc. And each has a funny saying on it. I found the products amusing, with a bit of whimsy as well. And with the start of the new year and everyone working on those darn resolutions, I figured I’d introduce you all to them. I contacted Dana, the owner to find out more about the company. Here’s what she had to say–
How did Words to Sweat By come about?
Words to Sweat by™ started with a gym towel that was left in the dryer at home instead of accompanying me to the gym and having to step stealthily onto the treadmill because I wasn’t too keen on having to buy a gym-branded towel. Since I like to “people watch” when I work out, I noticed a pattern of people making a statement about themselves and their goals on their hats, shirts, bags, etc. but every single towel was plain and boring.
While some people like to make bold statements about what they hope to achieve, there are others who like to be a little more subtle. Both types of people need a towel so I thought, ‘why not add some humor to a workout with a mantra on a workout towel’? In addition, a towel is something that anyone can use – a person doesn’t have to worry about if it will fit and therefore get discouraged. So, I went home that day and immediately starting brainstorming mantras and determining the best way to bring the product to fruition.
Right now, you only offer a few products. Are there plans to expand the line?
Yes, in fact, I just launched the World-Class Words™ collection which features the personal mantras of four elite athletes – Katherine Reutter (short track speed skating), Billy Demong (Nordic combined), Mariel Zagunis (fencing), and Laura Bennett (triathlon). Each athlete’s Olympic dreams are supported with a purchase of a towel therefore buying one not only supports a person’s fitness goals but the athlete’s aspirations for an Olympic gold medal.
I will also be offering a stainless steel water bottle in February of this year with the “Exert. Hydrate. Repeat.” mantra.
Is your website the only place to purchase your products?
Yes, the products can only be purchased through the Words to Sweat by™ website and there are no immediate plans to go into retail stores. I really enjoy dealing directly with my customers and make a point of providing the best customer service possible.
Words to Sweat by can be found on Facebook here. It’s a great place to converse about health and fitness as well as exercising your funny bone on those days when you need a good laugh.
What do you think of them? Are they as cute to you as they are to me? Would they motivate you to work out more?
