Everyone knows that I’m a huge fan of both Bill Hansen Catering and Villa Woodbine because they always have the BEST events. Well, another such event was held last Thursday night. Villa Woodbine was the venue for a wine tasting that was for the benefit of the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. What a night!
Everything about this event was top notch-even the weather. It was a gorgeous night, with hardly any humidity. As I drove up to the Coconut Grove setting that is Villa Woodbine, the peacocks were out in full force, wandering the property. There were musicians throughout the entrance, setting the mood for the evening. A few hundred people were in attendance. There was both a silent and a live auction–with offerings like cruises, gourmet wine pairing dinners, jewelry, sports memorabilia, art work and a large selection of fine wines.
But, the highlight of the evening was DEFINITELY the food. Top chefs from around town participated, creating dishes that were then paired with some of the world’s finest wines. Some of the chefs were:
- Tim Andriola of Timo
- Timmon Baloo of Sugarcane Raw Bar
- Vito de Salvo of Park Central Cafe
- Michael Gilligan of the W Hotel
Hands down–the BEST thing that I tasted that night was the Thai Fish Cakes with cucumber and jalapeno relish from Chef Steve Mosley of S & J Catering. This was followed closely by the Pork Sliders with Carolina relish that Chef Howie of Bulldog BBQ offered. The assorted sushi by Sushi Maki was a winner, too!
