Last night was amazing! I was invited to a Media Dinner at Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza in Boca Raton. While pizza isn’t high on my list of Fave Fab Things, Steve’s offered quite a few other things. So, I accepted the invitation. Steve’s is in a strip center at the corner of Glades & Lyons. When I arrived, Steve himself opened the door and greeted me by name. I was impressed! I was also glad to see the crowd gathered. This was one fun bunch of media–including my bestie, Zip Zip, of Champagne Living.
Steve Greenberg opened Steve’s Wood Fired Pizza back in ’87. He has served over a quarter milliion patrons since then. Steve serves more than 50 kinds of thin crust pizzas and more than 40 different toppings.
“When you come to my restaurant, you are given a choice of how you want your pizza cooked. Anybody can burn a pizza, but our oven is like a Ferrari–you really have be an experienced artisan to operate it, so the pizza comes out crispy, crunchy and not burnt. Some other pizza restaurants are serving burnt pizza and pizzas that are slapped together, making them dry, salty or even undercooked.”-Steve Greenberg
I think the original plan was for each jounalist to order from the menu, but everyone was having trouble deciding what to get. Steve then made an executive decision. He’d bring us some favorites from the kitchen, so that we got a taste of a variety of offererings. It sounded like a good idea. It really did. I completely fell for that plan. Until the food started coming without cease. It was obscene. The first thing that came out was called Garlic Knots. It’s homemade hand twisted bread tossed in sauteed garlic butter, sprinkled with Romano cheese and Italian parsley. I was in love! It was CRAZY good. Then, Steve had us try the calamari. He does two types. I thought the Asian Calamari was out of this world. It’s dusted in seasoned flour and tossed in sweet Chili sauce and toasted sesame seeds.
Then came the salads. HUGE bowls of Classic Caesar, Mediterranean, and Greek Salads. My favorite by far was the Blue Cheese and Candied Walnut, that is served with the homemade Raspberry Vinaigrette. The dressing was so good that I asked Steve later if he sold it by the bottle. Sadly, the answer was no.
There’s no way I could name EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen. But I will give you some idea. We had a table of about 9 or 10 and at one point, there were at least FIFTEEN whole pizzas on the table, along with Wood Fired Wings, Meatballs, Cheese Sticks, Baked Ziti, Penne Ala Vodka and more. I loved the wings, and, surprisingly, I completely devoured the Shrimp Scampi Pizza. I took home quite a bit of the Chicken Parmesan Pizza, which prompted my husband to announce that we’re going back there on Saturday. What a night! Check out the video…
