More than two years ago, shortly after I got my Kindle, I read Kathryn Stockett’s amazing book, The Help. I enjoyed it so much that one of my first blog giveaways was a copy of the book. I absolutely LOVED this book. It’s a story of friendship and redemption, set in the South during the 60s. I recommended it to everyone. In fact, long before we even knew that the book would be adapted for the big screen, my friend Lisa (of Reads4Pleasure) and I, started “casting” the movie in our heads. I must say that we did pretty good too.
Well, DreamWorks Studios has produced the film, The Help. And, even though it has an August release date, I was able to see it a few weeks ago, during my Disney/Dreamworks junket. Our group was treated to a private screening at DreamWorks, in their cozy theatre. It was an amazing, emotional film. The entire room was filled with sniffles and sobs from the group of Mom Bloggers that I was with. In fact, when the lights came up, my first comments to DreamWorks CEO, Stacey Snider, were-
“So, what are your plans for Oscar night?” and “You owe me a set a lashes, because I cried off the set that I came with!”
Since my return from California, I’ve been telling all of my besties that this film is a MUST SEE, opening on August 12. Well, I’ve just gotten word that DreamWorks has moved up the release date to Wednesday, August 10. AND, if you live in one of the following cities, you may be able to snag tickets for a SPECIAL screening on Tuesday, Aug 9. Those cities are:
- Atlanta
- Baltimore
- Charlotte
- Chicago
- Dallas/Ft Worth
- Detroit
- Houston
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Philadelphia
Call 1-800-347-6396 for more information about these screenings. I would do it sooner, rather than later.
And, for book clubs, DreamWorks has put together a special Book Club Kit. It contains EVERYTHING that you need to create a themed The Help meeting for your club! It includes southern style recipes, drinks inspired by the movie characters, and discussion group questions. Let me know if you would like to have a copy and I’ll email it to you RIGHT AWAY!
Again, this movie is AMAZING. YOU MUST SEE IT. YOU MUST READ IT. THAT IS ALL!
Check out this trailer. It’s interactive!!! Run your cursor over the timeline at the bottom to see comments!
