The Lion King Opens At the Arsht Center

14-01 Syndee Winters & Jelani Remy

Six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.  The all-time highest grossing show on Broadway.  The six longest Broadway run.  Seen by more than 64 million people in more than 19 productions–and in seven different languages.  Yes, besties–Disney’s THE LION KING!  Last night was opening night of the four week run at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.  I’ve seen it at least a dozen times and I was still giddy with anticipation of seeing it yet again.

This is more than just a play, it truly is a production–complete with amazing costumes, delightful sets, and those incredibly familiar tunes.  I was humming all the way home and actually fell asleep singing “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King!”

The musical is adapted from the 1994 Disney film by the same name and follows the story well.  Actors manipulate masks to simulate animal faces and sometimes appear as four legged creatures.  And, don’t think that all the action takes place on stage.  The entire theatre is used to entertain.  This is a MUST SEE for the family, but hurry–it only runs through June 10!

Tickets start at $36.50 and can be purchased at www.ArshtCenter.org or by calling the Box Office at 305-949-6722.
