More than 100 future fashion designers from Miami International University of Art & Design presented their collections last week in the University’s Annual Student Fashion Show, called Style 2011. It was part of the Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach and took place in the Funkshion Fashion Tent, on the sand at South Beach.
I look forward to this show every year. I’m always amazed at how well thought out and put together the pieces are. The students actually bring the pieces to life–from the original sketch, to the actual sewing. And this is also a competition. The categories include Collection, Evening, Ready to Wear, Menswear, and more.
The show is directed by the very FAB Charlene Parsons, who heads up the Fashion Department at the University. She’s been teaching fashion for 40 years and is a MAJOR player in Miami’s fashion scene. Absolutely ADORE her!
I loved it. Each outfit was more interesting than the last. The use of fabrics and textures were only upstaged by the designs themselves. The grand finale featured an Avant Garde black wedding dress–quite fitting for a sweltering day on the beach, huh?
