I am absolutely GIDDY about the fashion designer collabs that have recently been announced for Fall. Target and Neiman Marcus working together? I can’t even imagine what that’s going to look like, but I’m ready! So, when Kendal Perez, a frugal fashionista and bargain shopper, offered to give me some tips on how to save on such collabs, I jumped right on it. Here’s her post:
If you’re enjoying poolside reading, citrusy cocktails and backyard barbecues this summer, it might be challenging to look forward to Fall with any measure of excitement. Allow me to give you a reason: new designer collaborations.
This spring we saw Marni for H&M, Doo.ri Chung for Macy’s and Trina Turk for Banana Republic, among other fashionable partnerships. The popularity of these collaborations are leading more department stores to jump on the bandwagon, offering an unparalleled opportunity to own designer-inspired fashion for less.
Here’s a roundup of what you can expect over the next six months, plus savings tips to maximize your investment.
1. Target and Neiman Marcus
The collaboration between Target and Neiman Marcus is sure to cause headaches for the discount retailer’s tech team. Beginning on Dec. 1, 24 CFDA designers will offer over 50 unique gifts — from apparel to sporting goods to pet accessories — to both Target and Neiman Marcus shoppers. My fellow fashionistas can expect to find items from the likes of Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and more.
Savings Tip: Between now and November, hit up GiftCardGranny.com for the best deals on discount gift cards for Target to save on these coveted collections.
2. Kohl’s and Narciso Rodriguez
Narciso Rodriguez is one of America’s top young designers, and come November he’ll be one of the first artists participating in Kohl’s Design Nation program. He captured the spotlight in 1996 with Carolyn Bisset’s wedding gown, and more recently, the infamous black-and-red sheath worn by First Lady Michelle Obama on inauguration night.
Savings Tip: Kohl’s allows two promotional codes during online checkout, making it easy to score free shipping and additional discounts.
3. H&M and Margiela
After some strategic speculation, H&M recently confirmed their collaboration with the Martin Margiela fashion house, offering clothes and accessories for men and women worldwide starting Nov. 15. Though the reclusive designer no longer creates garments for the label that features his namesake, the collection is sure to result in long lines and website glitches.
Savings Tip: Search the web for glimpses and sneak peaks into Margiela’s H&M collection before it hits the stores, and make note of desired items to ensure you don’t buy more than you actually want.
4. eBay’s Holiday Collective
Not to be outdone by brick-and-mortar shops, eBay announced its holiday collaboration with seven designers — including Tibi, Chris Benz and Jonathan Adler — each creating unique gifts for under $100. Starting Nov. 12, online shoppers can find clothing, jewelry, electronics and travel-related gifts for the fashion forward folks in their lives. The items are available worldwide exclusively from eBay, and will include free shipping both within the U.S. and internationally.
Savings Tip: This collaboration is a good deal all on its own, but be sure to read return policies in case the unique gift you select is not well received.
5. Jessica Simpson for Destination Maternity
Just two weeks after Jessica Simpson’s much-awaited delivery of Baby Maxwell, the performer and designer announced her partnership with Destination Maternity to provide fashionable attire to preggos everywhere. The Jessica Simpson Maternity line will be available in September at Destination Maternity, Motherhood Maternity and Macy’s stores.
Savings Tip: Though most of her items will be priced at less than $100, moms on a budget can save even more on Jessica’s designs by cashing in credit card reward points for a Macy’s gift card.
