I first heard about and randomly signed on to Twitter in the summer of 2008. Back then, there simply weren’t a lot of folks to follow. But, also there was much less “noise.” Most were using their Twitter voices to expand their brands and broadcast their messages. One of the first Twitter voices that I found and followed was Ananda Leeke. I was instantly drawn in by her tweets–always positive, always informative, always engaging. And she was from Washington, DC! WOOT!
Nearly 2 years later, I walked into the main ballroom of Blogalicious ’10 and found a seat. I was absolutely overwhelmed by the energy in the room and wanted to take it all in. Imagine my surprise when the person who spoke to me, sitting right next to me, was Ananda Leeke! In the flesh. In her gloriousness. And she was the exact SAME person that she was on Twitter. I remember gushing and chatting incessantly with her, to the point where I felt like I was babbling. I hoped that she wouldn’t find me to be a complete idiot. And she didn’t. She was so wonderful that we shared quite a few meals during the conference. A month or so later, she invited me to be on her radio show. And, on my next visit to DC, we connected again. She came out in the SNOW to meet me. I absolutely ADORE her.
Ananda founded a group called the Digital Sisterhood Network. Digital Sisterhood Network (DSN) is a media channel that promotes digital sisterhood as a self-care, self-discovery, and social justice movement for women in social media. She also named December as Digital Sisterhood Month (#DSMonth), an annual celebration that honors the conversations, connections, communities, causes, and commerce that social media women engage in with each other. She hosts events both on and offline.
Well, right before Christmas, I got an email from Ananda. She was advising me that I had been named a Digital Sister of the Year. She named me a Lifestylista, defined as:
a woman who lives her life as a work of art; expresses it through her passion for beauty, entertaining, fashion, food, home décor, personal style, and travel; and inspires others to live their lives as works of art
Wow. I am BEYOND honored. Here’s my Digital Sister of the Year profile.
