Ari Seth Cohen calls himself an “old lady expert.” Four years ago, he started photographing stylish women that were 70+ in New York City. He chronicles them in a blog, called Advanced Style. He’s now compiled a collection of the photos in a book, of the same name. The cover photo of the book is the legendary Iris Apfel, the nonagenarian Palm Beach resident, famous for redecorating the White House. He made a special appearance last week in South Florida. Prior to his talk, residents of Forest Trace, the luxury retirement community in Lauderhill, modeled outfits from Sondro Boutiques.
Ari’s message was well-received by the crowd of mostly women ( though there were a few men sprinkled here and there). A couple of his tidbits:
- Embrace your not-so-perfect body, your wrinkles and dress for yourself.
- Sunglasses hide the ravages of age and allow you to spy on people!
Proceeds of book sales benefited Voices for Children of Broward County, a non-profit that assists abused, abandoned and neglected children. The organization raises funds for the Guardian ad Litem program, which trains community volunteers who work one-on-one with children in the care of the state.
