McDonald’s Diversity Blogger Breakfast

Do you know my bestie, Manny Ruiz?  Manny, along with his wife, Angela Sustaita-Ruiz, is the founder of The Hispanic PR Blog.   He’s also the CEO and co-founder of Hispanicize,  the largest annual event that gathers marketers, bloggers and social media influencers.  In addition, he co-founded the Latina Mom Bloggers Network.  And, in his spare time, he blogs on his own bilingual parenting website, PapiBlogger.com.  You think I do a lot?  NO.  MANNY does a lot!  In fact, right now, he’s on a 37 day adventure, driving his family from South Florida to Alaska.

So, last month, when Manny asked me to host a breakfast for local multicultural bloggers, I jumped at the chance.  The breakfast, a partnership between Hispanicize and McDonald’s, was to introduce the newest McCafe beverage, the Mango Pineapple Real Fruit Smoothie, as well as the new Premium Grilled Chicken Classic Sandwich, served on a bakery style bun made with 8 grams of whole grain.

We all met at a local McDonald’s last week to kick off the multi-city tour.  They had TOTALLY blinged out the restaurant, including a red carpet entrance.  There were fancy table cloths and center pieces.  Employee “waiters” came around and took our breakfast orders.    Wait, did I mention the Latin tunes?  The games?  The prizes?  Dancing?  You could TOTALLY forget the fact that you were in McDonald’s!

After breakfast, I greeted everyone–and introduced Cristina Alfaro, Manager of US Communications for McDonald’s.  Cristina thanked everyone for coming, on behalf of the company and talked about the partnership with Hispanicize. Then she sat and talked to bloggers one on one about potential collaborations.

Then, as a special treat, Latin actor Alejandro Chaban showed up to greet his fans.  He’s also an author, having written From Fatty to Hottie.  This book tells the story of how he went from being an overweight kis ato an athletic heartthrob.

McDonald’s put together a great display of meals having 600 calories or less.  It was really eyeopening to see how you can make healthy food choices, even at a fast food restaurant.  I had a great time!
