Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of meeting the drivers in the Cafes do Brasil Indy 300–the race going down at Homestead Miami Speedway tomorrow. IZOD and Macy’s at Dadeland hosted a event that not only featured ALL the drivers in the race signing autographs in the IZOD shop inside, but also a very exciting interactive show outside in the parking lot.
Fans, including my own son, got rides in a two-seater IZOD Indycar Series ride around the parking lot, as well as experienced both iRacing and Mattel simulators. There was even an amazing pit stop demonstration. Talk about hustling–those guys can refuel, change tires and get their driver back on track in seconds!
One of the coolest folks that I met was Cameron Haven, the Indy Series “Trophy Girl.” She’s a very FAB chick, from Tampa, who actually appeared in Playboy before getting the trophy girl gig. In this role, she goes to all of the races and hands the winner the trophy. Hmmm…this is the kinda job that I would be perfect for. Except the part where she wears a thick fire suit for all of her appearances.
I have to admit, I’ve never been a huge racing fan but I can’t deny its popularity. There were hundreds of people trying to get at the drivers yesterday–screaming, crying and nearly fainting in the presence of their celeb heroes and crushes.
And, the IZOD line at Macy’s was pretty cool, too. The shirts and tees bearing race insignia were being snatched up furiously yesterday.
As for the race tomorrow, I’m torn between going with the very popular and local guy, Helio Castroneves and my personal favorite Sarah Fisher, who is the first female team owner/driver in the Indy Series. I’ll be happy if either of them gets up close and personal with Trophy Girl!
