Michael Douglas Talks Ant-Man

Disclosure:  This interview was part of the Disney press junket for bloggers.  Walt Disney Motion Pictures  covered my travel, accommodations and activities.  All opinions are my own.

Michael 4

Actor Michael Douglas first came on my radar when I was a pre-teen.  He starred as the cute, young detective in the hit 70s television series, The Streets of San Francisco.  At that time, he was less “actor Michael Douglas” and more “actor Kirk Douglas’ son.”  Since then, he has completely come into his own.  He is now his own person, with is own set of Golden Globes, Oscars, and more.  He’s even received the very prestigious Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute.  These days, Kirk Douglas may be “Michael’s dad instead of the other way around.”  HAHAHA!

I was absolutely THRILLED to find out that I was meeting Michael during the blogger junket for Ant-Man (Opening July 17th).  He plays the role of scientist, Hank Pym.  But even then, I wasn’t quite certain of what he would be like.  I hoped that he would be witty and funny and likeable.  I was right.

From the moment that he walked into the room full of mommy bloggers, he was quite charming!  And STILL cute!  Here’s some of what he told us:

On his motivation for joining the Marvel Universe:

…Two of my best buddies are Jack Nicholson and, and Danny DeVito, and each of them had a great time, you know, as the Joker and as the Penguin.  I remember them, you know, talking about it and all that…my 14-year-old son, you know, I told him all about it, and he was like my agent.  He said Dad, you know what?  This is a whole new audience for you…I was really curious about effects movies and all of that.  And so that really was the reason.

On whether he realized the magnitude of Marvel Universe:

I was drinking the Kool-Aid.

On Paul Rudd (who plays the title character):

Paul now looks to me like Robert did before the first Iron Man, you know, Robert Downey. Also an excellent actor. And I’m sure this is going to be great for Paul.

On who was the greatest joy to work with in this film:

Then, we, everybody was, everybody was solid.  Um, I was, I think the biggest surprise was Corey (Stoll).  Corey was a great heavy.  He was a great, great villain, um, and he brought, and the scenes I had with him, he brought much more strength and, and dynamo than I ever had anticipated.

On the technology used in the film:

..how often too do you get to do a movie where you get to see yourself 30 years younger.”

These are just a few of the stand out quotes from MD.  Check him out in this new featurette!

If you are a lover of Marvel flicks, you MUST see this film.  It starts next week!  And also, check out who is RIGHT next to Michael Douglas!  HA!  Eat your heart out, Ms. Zeta-Jones!
