My MAIN apple scrapple, aka Miami HEAT champion and East team captain, Dwyane Wade, hosted his 6th Annual All-Star Weekend charity events during NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston. Although the weekend was chocked full of partnership appearances and All-Star festivities, his mission, as always, was to raise money for charities and to encourage fathers to play an active role in the lives of their children.
He kicked off the festivities with a meet and greet for Make-A-Wish children and their families. Afterwards, Dwyane, along with Pastor Joel Osteen and New York Knicks Assistant GM Allan Houston, hosted a Fatherhood and Family Panel Discussion addressing the fatherlessness issue across the country. The panel was moderated by Soledad O’Brien and Pastor Carl Lentz. He also celebrated his landmark partnership with LI-NING, and the creation of the new athletic footwear and apparel brand called WADE. The celebration featured performances by T.I. and special guests included Ludacris, Gabby Douglas, Common, Queen Latifah, and Alonzo Mourning.
Then, Wade hosted his annual “All-Star Luncheon.” All funds raised by the Wade’s World Foundation from this event directly support the Houston Early Age Risk Testing & Screening. Spike Lee, Yao Ming and Pat Riley were in attendance. And, D-Wade appeared at a WADE brand showcase pop-up store in Houston, participated in a Q&A with fans and signed limited quantities of WADE footwear.
