My Besties at the gorgeous Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun are stepping up their entertainment game. Last year’s offerings included concerts by Jon Secada, Enrique Iglesias, and Usher. They also hosted a Cirque show that I attended and loved–remember this?. This year, the fun is kicking off with a laugh-out-loud performance by three former Saturday Night Live comedians–Jon Lovitz, Chris Kattan, and Tim Meadows. It goes down this weekend. There’s also a few nights in March where Air Supply will be performing.
I actually had the chance to talk a bit to Jon Lovitz last week. Here’s what he had to say:
You were on SNL from 1985-1990. What was your biggest takeaway from that experience?
Well, it completely changed my life. I went from being broke and unknown to right and famous.
About your Emmy nomination, how did you get the news and who was the first person that you called?
Wow! I don’t think I remember the first one, but the 2nd one, I was hanging out with Dana Carvey and some other guys. I told them and then I called my parents and the girl that I was dating. I took my parents to the Emmy Show, and I remember being the the Green Room and saying, “Look, Dad!” I pointed out people like George Burns and Lucille Ball in the room with us.
When did you first realize that you were funny and wanted to make people laugh?
Well, I remember when I was about 5, seeing a friend make people laugh and wanting to make people laugh like he did. Then, when I was about 13, I saw Woody Allen’s Take the Money and Run and remember saying, “THAT is what I want to do!”
By the way, Moon Palace is bringing Cirque Dreams Rocks in this summer for a run. It features daring aerialists, gravity defying balancers, powerful strongmen and an array of edgy, awe-inspiring acts. Looking for summer vacay ideas for the family? I HIGHLY recommend Moon Palace–I fell in love with the place last year!
