Remember the Bulldog Taco that I talked about last year? And then the Duck Leg Taco? Both were part of a year long effort by Chef/Partner Patricio Sandoval and Mercadito Hospitality in their Tacos for Strength campaign. They featured a signature specialty taco by a different celebrated chef each month with five percent of proceeds from the taco to benefit Share Our Strength® in the fight against childhood hunger. They’ve announced that $4,017 was raised to benefit the cause.
And, due to overwhelming support from the prestigious chef community and guests’ response to the monthly specialty taco – which was sold at Mercadito locations nationwide – the campaign will continue for a third year beginning in January 2013. A new lineup of talented chefs and notable personalities in the community will create inspired tacos for Mercadito Restaurants in New York, Miami and Chicago. Since many of the chefs utilize flavors outside of Mexican cuisine, signature tacos represent the featured chef’s style of food, restaurant, and community. Chef Patricio encourages each chef to express themselves through their taco.
We partnered with many of my chef friends and peers that I admire. It was so much fun to see the inventive recipes that these chefs from different cuisines and backgrounds came up with – all for tacos!
