Recently, I attended a FAB luncheon and received a NewBeauty magazine TestTube as one of my parting gifts. I was OVER the moon. The TestTube was the first beauty product sampling program that I ever heard of–about 5 or 6 years ago. At that time, it actually looked like a giant test tube–clear and chocked full of products. Though its no longer clear, it was DEFINITELY full of brand name beauty goodies. Here’s how it works: Every three months, for just $29.95 (plus shipping and handling), subscribers receive a TestTube filled with deluxe and full-size samples of coveted, high-performance luxury products and the latest issue of NewBeauty. Subscribers also receive video emails, demonstrating how to achieve optimal results with the products.
Here’s what I got:
A sample size pot of Dalton Colour Creme Lip Gloss, in the Shawny K shade–Doris Dalton debuted her first product on QVC a few years back, and her brand has totally taken off. I haven’t done a potted lip gloss in a long time, but I really like this one–it’s thick, goes on smooth, and doesn’t have an annoying loud fragrance. IOh, and another plus–it’s lightly sweetened with the taste of vanilla. The raspberry pink color was just ok for me, I would have preferred one of the darker shades. It retails for $14
A sample size of Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara Tarte says that this mascara is like “push up bra” for your lashes. While I liked this formula, I have become inept at applying mascara with normal sized applicators. I need the HUGE, supersized ones if I don’t want it all over my face! LOL The full size retails for $19
A sample size of Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner This product both cleanses and conditions without detergents. I used this on a recent trip and it was just “okay.” The no lather formula felt odd, I think I need to see suds to feel like my hair is getting clean. I did like the fig scent, though. The full size retails for $33.25
A sample size of Dr Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion I used this product religiously for a couple of weeks and did notice that my skin felt more moist, but also tighter. I don’t have wrinkles, so I can’t say how well they work on them, but I’m hoping that I prevented the formation of a couple just by using it. The full size product retails for $60.
A sample size of philosophy perfumed shampoo, bath, and shower gel in the inner grace fragrance I love this brand and have designated this sample for my travel bag. I had never tried the inner grace fragrance, but I ADORED it–it’s quiet and perfect for bedtime. The full size product retails for $22.
A sample size of Borghese Fango Ristorativo Mud I became a Borghese fan many years ago, so I was absolutely excited to try this mud. It was supposed to restore, replenish, nourish, and energize my skin. I would say it did all of the above. It left my face feeling soft and hydrated. I will DEF buy this one. The full size product retails for $35.
A sample size of Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil I was a little leery of this oil, since I had never heard of the fruit. However, after a bit of research, it’s most commonly known as passionfruit. This oil is extracted from the fruit’s pulp by hand and without heat to ensure that the nutrients and vitamins are preserved. Before bedtime, apply 2 or 3 drops in your hands, rub them together and apply to your face and neck. The full size product retails for $46.
A sample size of Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pad This is a self tanner. Needless to say, I didn’t try it. I carry my tan with me always.
A full size sample of Pacifica Solid Perfume in the Tahitian Gardenia Fragrance. This may be my favorite product from the TestTube. The perfumes are made with soy and coconut wax and sold in small tins. They are entirely free of sulfates, parabens, other unwanted ingredients. I will DEF buy this when I run out, as well as the accompanying body wash and lotion. It retails for $9.
A sample size of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer I only recently started using primer–this is only the second one that I’ve tried. I LOVE the satiny feel that it gives my skin. It retails for $36.
A sample size of Prostrong Proadvanced Fluoride Nail Strengthener This stuff seems to be fantastic. It strengthens your nails even through polish. I’ll see how it works. The full size product retails for $15.
Personally, I think that this TestTube would DEF be worth $30 bucks. It’s a great way to try before you commit to buying expensive items. I’m in!
Disclosure: I was given this TestTube as part of an event. NewBeauty had no idea that I was a blogger when they gave it to me. No review or blog post was expected. All opinions are my own.
