The Body Shop ReOpens with Shalini Vadhera

A couple weeks ago, a newly redesigned version of The Body Shop opened in Aventura Mall.  I was invited to the festivities.  I must say that I was less than thrilled about going to the event.  I figured it would be another ho hum kind of evening.  As usual, I was over the moon surprised.

First of all, I’ve never really shopped at The Body Shop. I didn’t know much about the store or the brand.  How was I to know about their commitment to natural products?  Or about their social activism?  Heck, all I knew is that they sold that fab Body Butter.  Well, my friends, I got an education.  Here are some of the facts that I learned:

  • They have a special vendor purchasing program called Community Trade that brings quality products to their stores from all over the globe
  • All of their suppliers are aske to sign a Code of Conduct that governs employee standards like Child Labor, Discrimination, and Working Conditions
  • They are committed to reducing their own carbon footprint and use renewable energy in their stores, warehouses, and offices wherever possible
  • There is absolutely NO testing on animals.
  • They have a Global Volunteering Policy for employees, offering them paid days off to volunteer in their communities.
  • They actively campaign to raise funds and awareness for causes like domestic violence, AIDS, and human trafficking
  • They set up The Body Shop Foundation more than 20 years ago and make an annual donation of $990,000

Wow, how’s that for Social Good?  And WHY didn’t I know anything about it?

And, lest I forget, the evening was not all about serious matters, there was PLENTY of fun.  One of the best things about the event was that I met a new bestie–Shalini Vadhera.  She’s a celebrity makeup artist and founder of the Global Goddess beauty line.  She’s also an author and has appeared on such notable television shows as The View and The Today Show.

Will you believe me when I say that Shalini made up my face using The Body Shop’s line of cosmetics?  OMG.  I felt like a princess.  It took her about 15 minutes and I hardly recognized myself.  She also gave me a lot of cosmetic tips while she was working.  And afterwards, I got a professional headshot.  It was great!  And add knowing that The Body Shop sold makeup to the long list of stuff that I didn’t know.

I got a tour of the store and was simply amazed at all of the things in their lineup.  WHO KNEW?  And I got a gift bag of products to take home.  I can already tell you that my FAVE product is Cucumber & Mint Shower Gel.  It smells YUMMY and is so earth friendly.  I do now Heart the Body Shop!
