The Nest Is Empty! What to Do…

I received a Restaurant.com gift card for the purpose of this review. This post was made possible by Mom Spark Media. Thoughts are my own.

kens birthday

As many of you know, I just sent my Baby Boy to Navy Boot Camp to become a US Sailor.  What many of you may not know is that I already have a daughter in the US Navy.  That’s right.  I’m a Navy Mom, twice over!  I can’t count the number of times that I’ve been asked, “So, how do you feel about that?”

Well, here’s the truth about it.  I feel proud.  I feel happy.  I feel elated.  And, I also feel the sadness that my baby is gone.  Not to mention that he was one of my primary caregivers.  NOTHING scares a cancer patient more than losing a caregiver.  But I mostly feel FREE!  There’s a freedom that you only know when the last child walks out of the door.  For instance, last weekend was Easter.  Traditionally, we would have had a huge Easter dinner—a ham with all the fixins.  However, this Easter was different.  He had been gone only a few days.  I got up on Sunday and quickly announced to my husband that I had NO intention of cooking anything.  NOTHING.  He countered and said he felt the same.  We looked at each other.  It felt like one of those contests where the loser is the one who blinks first.  Please know that I didn’t blink.  Hours later, he went for take-out.  Did I feel horrible?  Absolutely not.  In fact, I felt like this might be the new normal for holidays in my house–either takeout or eating out.  And, I’m perfectly okay with that!

My uses the Restaurant.com quite often. Congrats to your family! Nothing like peace of a quiet home :-)
I’m sure another angel caregiver will come your way

  2. You have clearly done a fabulous job raising your children! I look forward to the day when I see my children walk out the door to become productive citizens. Don’t get me wrong; I love my kids, but I believe my job is to get them out of here! ;) I will have to check out that deal because I need a night away from the stove.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Easter, I was sick in bed the whole time, as I still am. How wonderful this new and exciting time in your life. The next one will be the Holiday hookups, just think of how you can all meet in a new place each year, (and still no cooking). I would like to say my home has an open door policy to your family for anytime and any holiday! Also, I know you; you are about to get even more creative than you already are in that empty nest!
