The summer of 1992. I was about to enter the last year of my 20s and I’m telling you–I was HECK on wheels! That summer, the world was introduced to Toni Braxton via the Boomerang soundtrack. She belted out “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” and it became the Single Ladies Anthem of it’s day. The following year she released her self titled debut CD, that went on to win her three Grammys and two American Music Awards. This is STILL one of my all time favorite CDs and I regularly pull it out and shake the dust off of it.
For the next decade or so, Toni released more CDs and even did a couple of Broadway and television shows. Then, she had a bit of a fall from grace–filing for bankruptcy twice. There were also health issues. Since those days, they’re been more CDs, but she was never been able to duplicate the success of her earlier days. Her claim to fame, as late, has been a reality television show that focuses on her and her sisters. But, for a fan of her early works like me, I simply can’t wait to see her belt out the old stuff, like this:
Toni is back on tour and one of the stops this summer is MIAMI! WOOT! I’m DEFINITELY there. Who’s in?
