Wade’s World Foundation, founded by Miami Heat Star Dwyane Wade, hosted it’s annual holiday initiative, called 3 Under the Tree, this past weekend. These events are intended to serve and inspire South Florida youth and families in need.
The weekend consisted of 3 events–
- On Sunday, December 19, Wade hosted 300 kids from various youth and church organizations in Miami-Dade and Broward counties for an afternoon of fun, food and games at Santa’s Enchanted Forest.
- At Monday night’s Heat vs Maverick’s game, Dwyane presented 3 lucky organizations with $10,000 each, to further improve their efforts in the local community. Representatives, including children and chaperones, were on hand to accept the donations, and participate in a meet and greet with Wade.
- The final event was yesterday morning at Target in Midtown, where Wade joined 10 local families in need, as they were treated to a $1,000 shopping spree.
Here’s what D-Wade had to say about this year’s 3 Under the Tree–
I can’t just let basketball define who I am and what I am supposed to become. Like my mother always tells me, ‘[My life] is bigger than basketball.
Donations from the Wade’s World Foundation events over the past month have totaled over $100,000. These include donations to his “3 Under the Tree” participants and the youth members living in Little Haiti who benefitted from Wade’s collaboration early this month with Art Studio Miami during Art Basel 2010. Wade also recently announced his partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to whom he donated $20,000 after being moved by the inspirational children and families receiving treatment through their renowned program.
I absolutely LOVE to see the blessed helping the less fortunate. D-Wade and his foundation certainly do this on the regular.
