Most of us in VERY South Florida only know Jupiter as an exit off of I-95, heading North. Many of us have probably never gotten off there. Jupiter is actually a pretty cool town. Remember a few years back when I reported that it had been named one of the Happiest Seaside Towns in America? Yep. The city’s website has traced the history of the area back to the 1500s, including this interesting story about how Jupiter got its name.
In addition to the prospect of running into area residents like Celine Dion, Michael Jordan, and Kid Rock, there’s also the way cool Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum there that offers climbing tours and exhibits. The lighthouse has been there since 1860. Whoa.
Two years ago, Jupiter broke ground on a new, ten acre “downtown-ish” area, called Harbourside Place. The waterfront development will include a 4-star Wyndham Hotel, a marina, and amphitheater. Recently, professional golfer (and Jupiter resident) Tiger Woods announced that he is opening a new restaurant here. While Harbourside is scheduled to open in a few weeks, The Woods Jupiter: Sports & Dining Club, won’t open until early next year.
Here’s what Tiger had to say about it:
I’ve been watching Harbourside Place’s development since it broke ground more than two years ago, and know that it is the perfect location for my sports and dining club. I look forward to enjoying my restaurant as much as I hope the public will. I envision a place where people can meet friends, watch sports on TV and enjoy a great meal. I wanted to build it locally where I live and where it could help support the community.–Tiger Woods
I’m looking forward to checking the spot out.
So, next time you’re headed up to Disney, stop in Jupiter and check out the scenery. And tell them that I’ll be stopping in soon!
